Vaping vs Edibles vs Smoking: Which is Superior?
There are so many ways to get baked, the question is often asked, which is the superior method? Well, it depends on what it is you are looking for. Are you going for a faster hitting high, or something that is longer lasting? Are you trying to consume your smoke in a healthier way? What about tolerance? It can be quite confusing, especially if you are fairly new to the wonderful world of weed. Vaping, edibles, smoking: which is superior?
Longer Lasting High
If what you’re after is a longer lasting high, then your best bet is going to be doing edibles. Edibles have to go through your digestive tract, so they take quite a bit longer (usually about 45 minutes to 2 hours) to kick in than smoking the old fashioned way or even vaping. However, if you are looking for a high that will last you several hours longer than smoking a bowl, edibles are definitely the way to go!
So, why is this? When you ingest cannabis via edibles, they travel through the digestive system via the stomach. Once the THC reaches the liver it is converted into the molecule 11-hydroxy-THC, which is the far more potent cannabis molecule.
Faster Hitting High
If you’re looking to get a buzz on in the quickest way possible, there’s no better way to go than smoking a bowl the old fashioned way via combustion. Smoking weed makes you feel the effects between 1 to 2 minutes. This is because, as you may have guessed, you are taking the THC (which at this point is converted into Delta-9-THC) into your lungs. When you take it in through the lungs, it then goes to the heart. Since the THC does not have to go through the gastrointestinal tract it hits the blood brain barrier faster than other consumption methods.
Doing it for Your Health?
If you’re concerned about consuming cannabis in a more healthy way, then between vaping, edibles and smoking, vaping is going to be the superior method. Unlike combustion, vaping does not involve torching your herb with a butane lighter, rather you just heat it enough to create THC vapor, which you then take into your lungs. You’re going to feel the effects about as quickly as you would smoking it, but you’re not taking in any carcinogens.
Vaping is superior to smoking for a number of reasons, actually. The thing that I’ve always preferred about vaping is that you can really taste the strain you’re smoking. Lemon Drop actually tastes like lemons!
Want the Most Potent High Possible?
If the thing that you desire the most is the most potent high possible, out of these three, edibles are again going to put you on the right path. All three methods are pretty potent, but only edibles convert THC to 11-Hydroxy-THC. 11-Hydroxy-THC is far, far more potent than its counterpart Delta-9-THC.
As a disclaimer, if you have a lower tolerance, I would not recommend taking a full dose of edibles; try splitting them in half, see how it affects you and try taking the other half in a few hours. It’s better to be safe than sorry!
